Charleston is a Top Bike Friendly City

Bicycling Magazine compiled a list of Top 50 Bike Friendly Cities, and Charleston took the #29 spot on the list! Charleston is the only South Carolina city to make the list.

The slide reads:

In February 2009, the mayor created the Bicycle Friendly Community Task Force. The committee is developing an action plan for improving conditions.

The photo included with the slide features the 12-foot wide pedestrian/bike path on the Cooper River Bridge between downtown Charleston and Mt. Pleasant. The path measures 2.7 miles and is a regular activity of both locals and visitors.

Other bike friendly Southeastern cities include: Chattanooga, TN; Cary, NC; Greensboro, NC; Gainesville, FL; Miami, FL; Little Rock, AK; Lexington/Lafayette, KY and Louisville, KY.

Several local groups are also promoting biking in Charleston, like Charleston Moves and the Holy City Bike Co-op.
