Halloween

The Charleston Regional Business Journal composed a great list of Halloween events this weekend for all ages. Below is a list of events for families, adults and A&E.

Family-friendly Halloween…

  • Pet Helpers is hosting a Howl-O-Ween dog costume competition from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the Elks Lodge in West Ashley. Dress up your dog (and yourself) to compete in five categories. Dog entry is $10.
  • On Friday, the city of Charleston is hosting its annual Trick or Treat in the Park from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hampton Park. Kids can enjoy climbing walls, hayrides, magic shows and ghost stories.happy-halloween-pumpkin
  • Mount Pleasant Towne Centre is hosting a trick-or-treat event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Kids can wander the center with their provided trick or treat bags. A jump castle, a face painter and balloon artists will be in front of the movie theater.
  • Come to the James Island County Park climbing wall dressed in costume for the Full Moon Climb from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Treats will be served, and younger kids can play on the jump castle. Climbing fee is $12, or $10 for Charleston County residents.
  • Kiawah Resort has lined up a whole weekend of events, including pumpkin carving, T-shirt tie-dying, haunted mazes and hayrides.

For adults that still like to dress up…

  • The Vue at Ripley Point is throwing a Fang Bangers Ball Friday night with all kinds of dizzying features. Enjoy an open bar from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., music and dancing with DJ Moo Moo and DJ Danny Seltzer, shadowbox dancers, a light show, lasers and more. Tickets are $30 for a cash bar, $50 for an open bar.
  • Eye Level Art is celebrating Halloween by throwing a Dark Arts Ball at 10 p.m. Saturday at its warehouse gallery, 2143 Heriot St. Wear a creative costume and enjoy an open bar and complimentary food from Street Foods (mini burgers, candy apple funnel cakes, pork buns, pad thai, sandwiches and thai basil cheesecake are on the menu). Expect a burlesque show and interactive art and installations by Max Miller, Julio Cotto and other artists. Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door and $35 for students and artists. Purchase tickets online, at Circa Lighting or Wild Flour Bakery. Part of the proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Trident Area. Valet parking is $5.
  • For a throwback to the era of big hair and leg warmers, head to the Charleston Harbor Resort‘s Reel Bar for a Totally ’80s Party from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be plenty of ’80s trivia and ’80s music (Madonna, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran). There is no charge to attend.

A&E…

  • For those more inclined to be scared on Halloween, Cinebarre is having a midnight showing of The Exorcist on Halloween. There is no charge to attend, and beer, wine and food will be for sale.
  • And at Park Circle, The Greater Park Circle Film Society is showing Evil Dead 2, a 1987 horror movie about a couple who encounter some evil spirits when they stay in a deserted cabin. It is showing at 10 p.m. Friday at The Mill. Tickets are $2 for members and $5 for nonmembers and can be purchased at the door.
  • For a little humor with your Halloween, Flowertown Players is performing The Rocky Horror Picture Show tonight through Sunday. Performances start at 8 p.m., and there’s a special midnight showing Halloween night and a 2 p.m. performance on Sunday. Tickets are $25, or $20 for students.
