Charleston’s hairiest residents have been getting a lot of attention lately. No, we don’t mean that to be rude–we mean members of the Holy City Beard & Mustache Society. My former sociology teacher, Paul Roof, founded this club three years ago after hearing about a club in North Carolina. They hold pub nights monthly for men with all styles of facial fur and the women that love them!

The Society recently held their first competition, The Southeastern Beards & Mustache Championships, a Beard Team USA-sanctioned event. Beards and mustaches of all forms were plentiful, and categories included: sideburns, goatee, moustache, bearded lady, recession, freestyle, gray beard and full beard. The event also raised over $3,000 for ovarian cancer research.
