After considering several port cities along the Eastern Seaboard, A&R Transport has selected the Charleston region for a 75,000-square-foot secured warehouse and trucking terminal to serve the growing southeastern market. The company has located at 900 Commerce Circle in Hanahan, and expects to create 25 new jobs for the region. Today’s announcement was facilitated by the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.

Founded in 1970, A&R Transport is a global company specializing in bulk transportation, packaging, distribution and logistics for the plastics industry. The company has 29 facilities throughout the United States, and also operates throughout Canada and in the northern provinces of Mexico.

According to company officials, the Port of Charleston was a key factor in its decision to locate in the region. “In conducting our location search, we compared port operations from Florida up through Virginia,” said Robert N. Dotson, President of A&R Packaging & Distribution. “The Port of Charleston is not only one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing, it also shines in terms of productivity and professionalism. We’re very pleased with our decision to locate in the Charleston area.”

In welcoming A&R Transport’s decision, Alliance Chairman Bill McCall said, “The Port of Charleston has once again attracted a top quality, value-driven company. A&R Transport did its homework, and our region rose to the top. We’re very pleased that this dynamic company has chosen to become a part of our business community.”

“We welcome A&R Transport and the jobs they bring to our residents,” said Jim Rozier, Berkeley County Supervisor and County Council Chairman. “This company had the opportunity to locate their business anywhere along the East Coast. We’re pleased to see this global player choose to do business in our region.”

Hanahan Mayor, Minnie Blackwell, added: “We’re pleased and proud that A&R Transport in putting their trust in our city as the place to invest for the future. We proudly welcome them to Hanahan.”

In facilitating announcements such as today’s, the Alliance works with numerous public and private allies. Its relationship with the South Carolina Department of Commerce has been of particular importance through the years.

“We welcome A&R Transport to South Carolina, and more specifically, the Charleston region,” said Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor. “We are pleased they recognized our state’s many benefits, especially our outstanding access to markets, capable workforce, and excellent quality of life.”
