Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC), the state’s largest health insurer, has signed a five-year license and services agreement with Benefitfocus.com, Inc., to provide online enrollment to BCBSNC members.

Under the terms of the agreement, BCBSNC will offer its customers online enrollment and access to benefits information through Benefitfocus’ Web-based benefits enrollment technology.

The Benefitfocus Web-based enrollment application is a robust and scalable Internet platform that allows health plan members to make their benefit selections online. Members can use a computer connected to the Internet or a Benefitfocus touch-screen kiosk. The application will be hosted by BCBSNC in its data center.

“Online enrollment is a technology innovation that will improve and simplify the enrollment process for our customers and members,” says John Roos, senior vice president of sales and marketing at BCBSNC. “Working with Benefitfocus, we will give them greater access to their benefits information while providing a rich set of tools for the corporate human resource professional.”

“We are very proud to have been selected by BCBSNC,” says Shawn Jenkins, president and CEO of Benefitfocus.com. Continues Jenkins, “Being associated with the largest health insurer in North Carolina is confirmation that we are on the right track with our software and services. There is no substitute for technology that works and the service to stand behind it. We are proud to be a part of BCBSNC’s mission to provide innovative healthcare to all North Carolinians.”

Under the terms of the agreement, Benefitfocus will provide its core Web-based benefits enrollment application directly to BCBSNC. In addition, Benefitfocus will assist in the deployment of the application at the BCBSNC data center. Following the deployment, Benefitfocus will provide ongoing support and service to BCBSNC, its clients, and its members.
