The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce has launched a program geared toward addressing the needs of small businesses in the Lowcountry.

The program, “Road to Success,” will consist of new events designed to build skills, to educate members about business trends and help members connect with other business leaders. Road to Success will also include a small business series, a program to connect entrepreneurs and investors, an annual awards program and regional Small Business Expo, which is scheduled for May 2012.

The early morning small business events, or the Road to Success Series Fuel Stops, will bring small businesses together to discuss trends, best practices and local resources, the chamber said. Each meeting will be at a different location throughout the Lowcountry and will feature speakers who will address several topics.

The first Fuel Stop will be hosted Sept. 7.

More than 80% of the chamber’s members have no more than 50 employees, according to a news release from the chamber.

“At the end of the Road Trip to Success, the region’s small business owners will bring home new skills and best practices, a better understanding of our regional economy and new business relationships,” said Laura Williams, small business director for the chamber.
