For this ranking, Expansion Management looked at European-based company expansions that occurred within the past 24 months that created at least 10 jobs and involved capital investment of at least $1 million. According to this survey, the Charleston-North Charleston metro ranked ninth in the nation for European expansion.

International companies, especially those from Europe, are establishing operations in the United States in order to take advantage of the skilled labor pool, or to be closer to certain markets, or any of the same reasons U.S. companies expand into new geographic territories.
