Charleston named a “2001 Choice City” by Outlook magazine

For Immediate Release
January 1, 2002

Business Development Outlook magazine has recognized Charleston, S.C. as one of the nation’s “choice cities” for expanding or relocating a business.

According to the article, Charleston’s warm climate and waterside location (on the Atlantic Ocean and at the juncture of the Ashley and Cooper rivers) make it an ideal spot for year-round recreation. The Port of Charleston, the largest containerized port on the Southeast Atlantic with more than two miles of berthing space, allows local manufacturers to import and export products all over the world. And the Norfolk Southern and CSX rail system makes for easy cargo transportation between Charleston and major markets throughout the U.S.

In developing this list, the editors looked at Department of Labor statistics, U.S. Census data, reports from the Federal Reserve, reports from the Conference Board, and information from the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
