The National Science Foundation’s Partnerships for Innovation has awarded the College of Charleston a two-year $599,969 grant award for the Lowcountry Partnership for Biomedical Innovation.

This project is a joint effort led by the College of Charleston, with other participants that include the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of Louisville, the South Carolina Research Authority, the City of Charleston and the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.

The project is intended to use psychological and social research on entrepreneurial individuals and start-up teams to increase the likelihood that biomedical discoveries will be successfully commercialized.

“This project will significantly strengthen the College of Charleston’s role in development of the region’s biotechnology community, and provide College of Charleston students with the opportunity for even greater participation in the business of biomedical science, “ says Kelly G. Shaver, Chair of the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship at the College of Charleston. Shaver is the Principal Investigator of the project.
