Force Protection Inc. today announced a U.S. Army contract for up to $5 million for authorized supply stock used to service its Buffalo route clearance vehicle. The contract was issued by the Army’s Tank-automotive and Armaments Command in Warren, Mich.

“This contract is an indication of the breadth and depth of the resources and expertise being brought to bear to supply our troops with the best protective equipment possible,” Chief Executive Officer Gordon McGilton said in a press release.

The Buffalo has been deployed in mine clearance operations since 2003. The Tank-automotive and Armaments Command recently placed its first order for about 19 Buffalo vehicles.

The Buffalo is being used to clear thousands of suspected explosive devices in Iraq, Afghanistan and other global hot spots. While Force Protection does not publicize the exact location or number of vehicles deployed, more than 50 Buffalos have been delivered to the U.S. government in the past three years.
