Interwrap chooses Charleston region for its newest strategic distribution center

For Immediate Release
September 1, 2005

September 14, 2005 – InterWrap, Inc., a fully integrated, global manufacturer of fabricated coated woven packaging products, will open a North American strategic distribution center in the Charleston region. The company will locate in North Charleston’s Northwoods Building, at 1930 Hanahan Road. About seven new jobs will be created within the first year. This announcement was facilitated by the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.

Headquartered in British Columbia, Canada, InterWrap serves various markets including wood, metals and industrial packaging, converted fabrics, agricultural, construction, and building products. The company’s product manufacturing operations take place in Canada and India, and company officials cite Charleston’s port as instrumental in their location decision. The company also considered Savannah, GA.

Bill McCall, Chairman of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, welcomed the news. “Time and again our ambitious port is recognized as instrumental in a company’s decision to locate in the Charleston region. We’re pleased to see additional business at our port and welcome the jobs InterWrap will bring to our area.”

“Congratulations to InterWrap on this news! We are delighted to welcome them,” said Leon Stavrinakis, Chairman of Charleston County Council. “The Port of Charleston is the gateway to the world, and sourcing origins like India have become days if not weeks closer than they used to be. I have no doubt that Charleston will become the profitable epicenter of the InterWrap worldwide supply chain.”

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey also celebrated InterWrap’s decision. “We’re extremely pleased that this company has chosen to grow in our city. I am confident that our region’s talent and world-class port will be integral to InterWrap’s success.”

In facilitating announcements such as today’s, the Alliance works with numerous public and private allies. Its relationship with the South Carolina Department of Commerce has been of particular importance through the years.

“With our extensive road system, the Port of Charleston, and our strategic geographic position among major markets of the East Coast, South Carolina was a terrific choice for this distribution center,” said Commerce Secretary Bob Faith. “InterWrap is a first-rate company, and we’re pleased to have them here.”
