Charleston-based Navigational Sciences Inc., which develops tracking and data communications systems, has signed a new and expanded patent license agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Navigational Sciences officials announced today.

The license agreement includes nine patents related to several advanced communications methods, including wireless communications technology that transmits information and data more effectively and securely in highly congested and obstructed areas than did previous generations of wireless technology, according to Navigational Sciences.

The technology will be marketed under Navigational Sciences’ Wave Additive Radio Processing, or “WARP Wireless,” brand name for next-generation radio frequency identification to track shipping containers and mobile assets.
