Miami now one flight away through American Eagle

Nonstop flights between Charleston and Miami are scheduled to begin Nov. 19.

American Eagle Airlines, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, will operate the 50-seat service between Charleston International Airport and Miami International Airport.

“We’re delighted to expand our service to Charleston, offering our customers convenient connections through Miami to 14 destinations throughout Florida, the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Latin America,” said Peter Bowler, American Eagle’s president and CEO.

“With the significant military presence in the Charleston area, this will provide even greater access for visitors to and from the Charleston Air Force Base, Naval Weapons Station Charleston, as well as The Citadel military college.”

Sen. Jim DeMint said the service will help bring Florida residents to “one of the jewels of the South.”

“I am extremely pleased to see that American Airlines will be providing direct service to Miami,” said DeMint, R-S.C., the ranking member of the Senate aviation subcommittee.

Charleston County Aviation Authority Chairman David Jennings said the deal opens an important route for Charleston’s business and leisure travelers heading to Miami, other South Florida destinations or the Caribbean.

The schedule for the flights between Charleston and Miami will be daily as follows:
