Mount Pleasant is one of the most desirable places in the country to call home, and the only town in South Carolina to make Money magazine’s annual list of the 100 “Best Places To Live.”

Economic Development Coordinator Myles Michael Stempin said the ranking puts Mount Pleasant on the radar for entrepreneurs and businesses. No towns in Georgia made the list, and only two North Carolina towns were recognized.

“That’s really who we compete with when we try to locate business here,” Stempin said.

Mayor Harry Hallman said the town ranks high in quality of life because it is close to the ocean, has the finest schools in the state, beautiful bridges, friendly people and is near top-flight medical facilities.

“All those things just make up a good community,” he said. The town is No. 70 on the small cities list. “I’m surprised we’re not No. 1,” he said.

The finalists are listed at CNNMoney.com.

Factors such as housing, job growth, crime, leisure activities and commute times were considered in the annual ranking, which listed Fort Collins, Colo., as the best town in the country.
