Charleston-North Charleston Metro ranks #17 among top U.S. cities for European investment

This marks the fourth year for the annual survey of European capital investment in the U.S. manufacturing sector. In order to be included, a European-based company must make a brick-and-mortar expansion in the United States that involves a capital investment of at least $1 million and creates at least 10 new jobs. In addition, these expansions must have taken place within the past two years. This year's list included Charleston-North Charleston ranking #17 as a top U.S. city for European investment. AaiPharma to boost work force, add to product line

Two years after buying a struggling drug manufacturing plant from the Medical University of South Carolina, aaiPharma is boosting the North Charleston operation. The drug company plans to add as many as 20 workers to the 50 it employs at the plant over the next year, and it hopes to multiply the amount of product manufactured there five-fold. Port presents $128 million investment program

North Charleston set to become international business hub

SCWTC officials recently announced plans to build an office facility at the Coliseum-Convention Center complex to replace its cramped offices in downtown Charleston’s BellSouth building and expand international services. According to SCWTC Executive Director Mark Condon, most of the new space will be “marketed to importers, exporters, shipping lines, maritime attorneys, global technology firms and other businesses engaged in world trade. The center’s goal is to create an international address that would attract a concentration of tenants with similar interests.” Continue reading
