Pilot brings experts to Charleston for asthma summit

Charleston Regional Business Journal
March 1, 2003

Pilot Therapeutics Holdings Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company developing and commercializing a portfolio of pharmaceutical and clinically validated over-the-counter products, is bringing renowned leaders in the field of asthma research together for the inaugural Charleston Asthma Summit.

The forum, scheduled for April 10 at the Mills House Hotel, is the culmination of several events centered around the planned April 7 launch of Airozin, Pilot’s lead OTC product for the dietary management of asthma.

Summit speakers include physician researcher Dr. Jonathan Peter Arm of Harvard Medical School, a member of the immunology and allergy faculty at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston; Dr. Peter S. Creticos, clinical director of the Division of Clinical Immunology of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore; Dr. Allen P. Kaplan, professor of medicine and director of the Institute for Inflammation Research at the Medical University of South Carolina; and Bradley Undem, Ph.D., professor of medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The summit will provide information for a wide range of audiences including physicians, pharmacists, advocacy groups and asthmatics. Floyd “Ski” Chilton, Pilot’s founder, president and CEO, says the ability to move the community toward a greater understanding of asthma management through dietary control is critical for realizing the full product potential of Airozin in the marketplace.

Airozin will be launched April 7 in selected markets throughout the Carolinas, including Charleston. According to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 27 million Americans have asthma today. In addition, the prevalence of the disease has doubled over the last 20 years, according to the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology.
