Touchstone Television is currently shooting Army Wives, a pilot episode for a proposed television series in Charleston. Charleston is under consideration as the permanent location for the series if it is picked up by the Lifetime Network.

Army Wives revolves around a sassy young woman from the wrong side of the tracks who marries a soldier and moves her kids onto an Army base, where she befriends a diverse group of Army wives. It is the first project Touchstone Television, a division of The Walt Disney Company, has shot in South Carolina.

“The fact that industry leaders are continuing to bring projects to South Carolina shows that our work this year in pushing for more aggressive incentives is paying dividends,” Governor Mark Sanford said. “This production will bring a host of benefits to South Carolina, from the multiplier effect the project creates for local businesses to the way it promotes our state as a tourism destination.”

“Governor Sanford’s long-time commitment to making South Carolina attractive to the film industry continues to strengthen our state’s economy,” said Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor. “We are pleased that the local businesses in Charleston will benefit from the positive economic impact that this production will add to the community.”

“Charleston’s unique locations, including the Navy Base, and the skilled local film crew proved essential in attracting Touchstone to the area,” said South Carolina Film Commissioner Jeff Monks. “The project’s budget, in excess of $1 million, qualified the production for our incentives program and that sealed the deal.”

Effective July 1, South Carolina’s new incentive package, subject to availability, offers up to a 30% cash rebate on supplier expenditures and up to a 20% cash rebate on employee wages when at least $1 million is spent in the state. South Carolina also offers sales, use, and accommodations tax exemptions, as well as some fee-free state properties.
