Propellor Club names Charleston ‘Port of the Year’

Charleston was recently named “Port of the Year” at the Propeller Club of the United States’ 75th International Convention in Tacoma, Wash., beating out more than 80 ports across the country and around the world.

During the award presentation, Charleston was praised for its work in building the club’s financial strength, forming scholarships, helping coordinate community activities and attracting national-level speakers.

The award was accepted by local Propeller Club officers Peter Lehman (president), Carlton Simons (treasurer) and Gitta Wombwell (secretary).

Charleston will host the Propeller Club’s next International Convention, Oct. 1-5, 2002.
