Alachua, Fla.-based Regeneration Technologies has invested $5 million in Organ Recovery Systems Inc., an East Bay Street biotech firm providing products and services helping to preserve organs and tissues for transplantation.

“We’re developing techniques and devices to improve the quantity and quality of cells and tissues,” says ORS Senior Vice President Kelvin Brockbank.

According to the Medical University of South Carolina’s Vladimir Mironov, head of MUSC’s Tissue Engineering Laboratory, Regeneration Technologies is one of the fastest-growing tissue engineering and regenerative medicine companies in the world. Mironov hails Brockbank’s deal with Regeneration Technologies as a major coup—and a big step toward Charleston becoming a “world capital” for tissue engineering.
