A restructured trade route from Asia to the United States to Europe is expected to add Charleston as a port of call.

Two shipping companies, the “K” line and Yangming Marine, are buying cargo space from Grand Alliance, a consortium of European shipping companies and another carrier while dropping agreements with two other trans-Atlantic carriers, Lloyd’s List International reported.

The Grand Alliance service will be extended to include Charleston. It will have a dozen ships holding 3,500 total equivalent container units apiece.
