Richard Jerue named president of The Art Institute of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ — Richard Jerue has been named president of The Art Institute of Charleston.

Jerue is responsible for launching The Art Institute of Charleston in the greater-Charleston area, with initial offerings in culinary, media arts including graphic design, interior design and interactive media design and photographic imaging.

Pending all necessary state licensing and accreditation approval, the school is anticipated to open in April 2007 at 24 N. Market Street in the Carroll Building at East Bay, and will be a member of The Art Institutes system of schools.

Jerue joined Education Management Corporation, the parent company of The Art Institute of Charleston, in 1995, serving in a number of capacities including President positions at The Art Institute of Washington and The New England Institute of Art. He previously held corporate positions at Education Management Corporation’s headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA as Assistant to the CEO and Vice President, Government Relations.

Prior to joining Education Management Corporation, Jerue held a number of governmental positions at the federal and state level, including Staff Director and Counsel, Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education, U.S. House of Representatives; Executive Director, National Commission on Student Financial Assistance; Staff Director and Counsel, Subcommittee on Education, Arts and Humanities, U.S. Senate; and, Legislative director, Office of the Governor, State of Rhode Island.

Jerue holds a Juris Doctor Degree from Suffolk University Law School and Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bowdoin College.
