Several Charleston Chefs Make James Beard Awards’ Semifinals

The James Beard Foundation recently announced the semifinalists for its annual awards, which is known as the “Oscars for food world.” Several Charleston chefs are up against other top chefs in the 2011 awards. Craig Deihl of Cypress and Ken Vedrinski of Trattoria Lucca are up for “Best Chef: Southeast.” Charleston chefs have won this category for the last three years, so we hope to continue this trend. Both chefs were also semifinalists last year.

Additionally, Lauren Mitterer of Wild Flour Pastry was nominated for “Outstanding Pastry Chef,” Charleston Grill for “Outstanding Service” and HUSK for “Best New Restaurant.” I hear Mitterer makes the best sticky buns on Sundays.

The winners will be announced on May 9. Good luck to all the semifinalists!
