TALENT SPOTLIGHT: ALEX PUSEY

What’s your background? How did you end up with Thorne?

I grew up in Anderson, SC, and then graduated from The Citadel in December 2018 with a degree in Business. A few months after Thorne completed its move from Idaho, I met their recruiters at a career fair. In January 2019, I began working in Thorne’s Supply Chain department. Since then, I have been promoted three times to my current role as Senior Manager of Strategic Planning and Business Operations.

How did you end up in CHS?

I have strong family roots in Charleston, with my great-grandfather graduating from The Citadel in 1912 and three other family graduating in 1946 and 1951. Most of my family still resides in Charleston, and I grew up spending summers searching for shark teeth and fishing for snapper along our coastline.

What are the biggest benefits to working in Charleston?

The most significant benefits of working in Charleston are the amenities of a larger city with the family-oriented communities of a hometown. Southern hospitality carries over to the professional world in Charleston. Thorne, and the companies I work projects with for Thorne, always go above and beyond to help fellow Charlestonians feel comfortable and at home. There is an intangible sense of community tailored to our Lowcountry home. Not to mention, everyone is always less than 30 minutes from a beach!

Any advice for new grads seeking to work in your industry?

My advice to new graduates is always to do more and avoid complacency. There are plenty of opportunities to engage in our community through charity, local education advisory, extracurriculars at work, or additional education. I am a big advocate for education, and our city offers excellent opportunities to further your education with multiple universities ranging from liberal arts to medical and law. Many Charleston companies offer employees a chance to attain a graduate-level degree/certificate, another great benefit of living in the Lowcountry.

Describe your ideal, quintessential Charleston day.

My perfect quintessential Charleston day involves hiking through the marsh in one of our many state parks and then grabbing barbeque for lunch, afterward stopping by a few of the wonderful breweries in the area and finishing the day at either a Charleston RiverDogs baseball game or a local concert.
