Sorry, San Francisco, but your time at the top has ended. According to the newest Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice poll, Charleston is now the #1 tourism destination in America. And that’s not a brag (that would be impolite!).  The local media and social networks around town were instantly abuzz with the news. The annual survey – which also placed Santa Fe, Chicago, Honolulu and other great US destinations in the top 10 – weighs six factors: atmosphere/ambience, culture/sites, friendliness, lodging, restaurants and shopping. In addition to singing the city’s praises, readers also named numerous Holy City hotels and resorts among their faves.

And that big win from a magazine happened on the very day that a big win was celebrated by a local magazine. Homegrown Garden & Gun was named to Advertising Age’s prestigious Top 10 list of best magazines. G&G was honored for its quality editorial content, growing advertising base and increasing readership. Launched in 2007, the niche publication drew plenty of attention (and some cynicism) as the Great Recession took hold, but has managed to emerge as one of the hottest new properties in publishing.
