On behalf of the Charleston region’s professional economic development team, and our many partners across the state, I want to thank Bobby Hitt for his exceptional 10 years of leadership and success serving as South Carolina’s Secretary of Commerce.

In addition to his diverse and international business experience, Bobby’s strength includes a deep understanding that succeeding in a globally competitive environment requires partnering and collaboration. He genuinely values relationships, and he understands we must work regionally, and at the state level, as a public/private team. From the beginning of his tenure, Bobby embraced this team approach, and our three-county region and state benefitted from his strong leadership.

Just a few days before the SC Senate confirmed Harry Lightsey as our next Secretary of Commerce, Bobby and Harry met with our state’s eight regional economic development alliance leaders so Harry could introduce himself and learn more about the various regions. It was a wonderful discussion. My primary takeaway was the emphasis Harry placed on the importance of relationships, collaboration, and teamwork — all key to competitive and sustainable success.

I’m grateful for Bobby’s leadership and friendship, and I look forward to partnering with Harry in the years ahead.
